The Movie Experience I Can’t Forget

Compiled by film critic Matt Zoller Seitz, the slideshow at Salon.com asks different film critics for their memories of a movie experience they cannot forget. It could be anything: the situation, the person you saw it with, the surrounding circumstances of your life at that time, or, flat-out, the impact the movie itself had on you.

15 people were polled. I’m slide 4.

Movies are not always just movies. They can mark time, or moments of transformation, revelation, epiphany. They can be, as Anne of Green Gables declared, an “epoch” in one’s life.

Definitely read the whole thing.

Nice anecdote, Sheila. I like the phrase “lawlessly slurping down root beer floats.”

/”Little House on the Prairie” and “James at 15” had never brought on such a stir./

    Hahahahahahahaha.

Such a great slice of life your “slide” is.

Thanks, guys! It was a fun assignment. one of the funnest parts of it was writing my piece in a vacuum, not knowing what everyone else was going to write, and worrying if mine would stand out or whatever. (I suppose it is a GOOD thing if mine stands out, but I still worry. It’s my nature.) So to read everyone else’s pieces was so fun!!

I think it’s a great idea. And the comments section is fantastic (well, for those who understood the whole point of the piece, that is – there are many who just didn’t get it, despite the clearly laid-out title). The stories told in the comments section are great too.
