….about this and I read it hours ago. I’m trying to imagine the omniscent narrator in Tess of the D’Urbervilles suddenly saying on page 375: “Holy shit, I totally did not see that one coming.”

I can imagine that happening about a hundred times during ‘Tess’… I had to read it in high school (and watch the movie) – it has haunted me ever since.
LOL!
The world is not just. Nothing makes sense. Anyone who tries to make sense out of the random cruelty experienced by Tess from almost Day One of her life is a fool.Holy shit, I totally did not see that one coming.
Is that a joke? Or are you just randomly quoting me and the article? Don’t get it.
Guilty as charged. My feeble attempt at humor for the day.
No no no – It’s MY bad, MY lack of “getting it”. Sometimes I don’t pick up on jokes in typed form. It’s a failing of mine!!
Have you ever read the Jasper Fforde series that starts with “The Eyre Affair”? This article totally makes me think of those books.
Look at me! Two comments in one night. I guess I have officially left the lurker classification.
Jen – welcome, welcome. I looooooove it when people de-lurk, I really do!!!
I only have the first one of Jaspe Fforde series – and haven’t read it yet. It’s on my To Be Read list though!!
