I am beginning to understand the deep truth behind those words.

Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman, and Edmund Burke look on … in approval or dismay we cannot be sure. Perhaps The Federalist Papers will have something to say on the matter.

  1. Jeff says:

“Better be despised for too anxious apprehensions, than ruined by too confident security.” – Edmund Burke

I have no idea if that quote makes any sense in this context, but it was the best I could do on short notice.

Perhaps the scratching post had “too confident security”!

  3. Murder is always on their minds. Not a day goes by when the carcass of a bird or field mouse isn’t found in the back yard, usually horribly eviscerated. She’ll curl up with you, roll on her back when she sees you and appear to be the sweetest thing on Earth. Then put her in front of a bird. I saw my little kitty in the act of tearing a bird to shreds a few months ago and it was terrifying to behold. She had such a demonic look on her face, her teeth showing, not responding to my voice at all. It’s like she was in the throes of a feverish blood lust.

Jonathan – hahaha I know, it’s so awesome. She gets so intent and really almost frightening.

  5. David says:

We have five cats. Four were strays (all tiny abandoned kittens) the fifth was born in our house, the daughter of one of the strays. They have been part of our family for a long time. They look out of the windows and look at the birds and chatter their teeth. Yes, every once in a while they’ll bring home an eviscerated corpse, but they sleep with us at night and look for us to come home when one of us have gone away. Up till a year ago we had two large dogs but old age caught up with them and they died and left us taking parts of our hearts, The cats miss them and still look out for them. David
