“East Jesus Nowhere” is currently my favorite track on Green Day’s latest – but this live version is blowing me away.
They’re playing the song just a tiny bit faster than they do on the album, which makes it sound even more furious. Thrilling. Absolutely thrilling. And the connection with the crowd just heightens what is already a high-powered intense song.
The second I heard the song for the first time, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and it just gets better with each listen.
Seeing it live is a whole other experience. I’m blown away by this performance.
Softness and openness is all well and good. But I need my rage, too. Sometimes it’s the only thing I’ve got, and I thank God for it.
Take it away, boys.
amazing!
love this new album. i like that you have to listen to it as an album. it is not fit for shuffle–props to them for doing that in an ipod age.
i have had a crush on tre cool since junior year in high school.
Siobhan – it is so true that you have to listen to it as an album. Once I heard it from beginning to end it really landed for me – know what I mean? I had listened to individual tracks and really liked them but now it’s hard to pick one out from the whole.
I love how he, in doing that faux rock-star move near the end (playing his guitar behind his head) accidentally and geekily knocks the mike off the stand – and his response to that – like it totally ruined his “big rock star moment” – but he handles it so well – picking it up and kissing it – and then going right back into the song (picking up the same note he needs to be on – amazing!) – just a perfect display of goofiness, irony and power.
Love them!!!
you know, they have always been such a tight band when they play live. I love them! Natalie’s favorite band, too.
Cashel’s too!
