About &#8220;ish&#8221;?  The Irish tendency to say, &#8220;I&#8217;ll meet you at nine-ish, I&#8217;ll call you at half-seven-ish&#8221;, etc.?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got another one.  But it&#8217;s even better.<\/p>\n<p>Got an email from an Irish friend.  He closed with:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll write a longer letter soonish.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I find that BEAUTIFUL.  It made me laugh out loud.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, it&#8217;s a bit different than &#8220;I&#8217;ll meet you at 9-ish&#8221; or &#8220;10-ish&#8221;, because &#8230; well, &#8220;soon&#8221; is <i>already <\/i>a vague word, so to put &#8220;ish&#8221; at the end of &#8220;soon&#8221; is absolute genius.<\/p>\n<p>The funniest thing about all of this is I know <i>exactly<\/i> what he means by &#8220;soonish&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member this whole post?
