I&#8217;m nervous, I suddenly feel like all my writing sucks, but I can&#8217;t wait for my first class.  The teacher will be Martha Cooley, whose first novel was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0316158461\/qid=1114429268\/sr=1-1\/ref=sr_1_1\/104-3196912-9150335?v=glance&#038;s=books\"><i>The Archivist<\/i><\/a>.  Gonna have to read it before the class starts!  It sounds very interesting.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a fiction class, so I need to look through all my work, and choose stuff I want to work on.  Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!  Fear!  Excitement!  Ambition!  Drive!  It&#8217;s all good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, except for creative writing stuff in grade school, I&#8217;ve never taken an actual writing class.  So I have no idea what to expect, and that&#8217;s an awesome thing.  It is time to push my work (and how I work) to the next level.  I have felt that for some time, have felt a bit stuck, and felt that I needed to get outside eyes on my work.  I&#8217;m in a writing group, and that&#8217;s great, but they all KNOW me, and so sometimes their critiques of my work show their bias.  It&#8217;s a very different thing to have someone who doesn&#8217;t know you (like editors, like the agent I work with, and other writers) say: &#8220;This is good.&#8221;  Whole different ballgame.<\/p>\n<p>So I can&#8217;t wait.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just registered for a summer writing course at the prestigious 92nd Street Y.
