I call her.  She answers on the first ring.  She obviously has me programmed into her phone, she knows it&#8217;s me &#8230; because she does not say &#8220;Hi&#8221; or &#8220;This is Alex&#8221; &#8230; No.  Her first word to me is: &#8220;Wait.&#8221;  Okay, she&#8217;s in the middle of something.  I wait.  She periodically repeats the word, &#8220;Wait &#8230; wait &#8230;&#8221;  I continue to wait.  At some point, I begin to laugh.  She murmurs to me, &#8220;Sorry &#8230; just finishing reading something on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cultnews.com\/\">Cult News <\/a>&#8230;&#8221;  hahahahaha<\/p>\n<p>Alex was describing to me a bizarre interaction she had yesterday.  I will not go into details, but she was telling me about how her response to this interaction was to just go completely blank &#8230; like, she could not think of an appropriate response &#8230; NOTHING was in her head &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;If there was a close-up of my face in that moment, you would have seen an absolute BLANK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then Alex summed it all up by saying, &#8220;I felt like I was in a deleted scene from <i>Waiting for Guffman<\/i>.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night, Alex and I were on the phone, discussing Tom Cruise like the two maniacs that we are.
