I read every post she writes.  Sometimes they are as small as <a href=\"http:\/\/afterjanuary.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/in-it.html\">this<\/a>.  Or a brief thought she has about <a href=\"http:\/\/afterjanuary.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/schopenhauers-porcupines.html\">Schopenhauer<\/a>.  I love how she just lets her emotions go in her writing &#8211; like this one about <a href=\"http:\/\/afterjanuary.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/end-of-apartment.html\">an apartment in Paris.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And then there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/afterjanuary.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/related.html\">her post today<\/a>.  It&#8217;s a specific recollection of her family.  I was so struck by this passage:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;My grandmother and her sisters were so cold, and so mean. I shiver to think of them. There was an odd kind of glamour to their frostiness&#8211;particularly in one great aunt who was more well-off than the others. They may have been cruel and utterly unforgiving, but they at least had some style about it. At least they had the power of making you <i>wish <\/i>they liked you.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i>An odd kind of glamour to their frostiness<\/i>.  That&#8217;s some good stuff there.  Maybe not so pleasant to have lived it &#8230; but it&#8217;s quite a nice turn of phrase, I think.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; on my blogroll is Anne.
