I just finished <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0451186362?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=thesheivari-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0451186362\">Rose Madder<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=thesheivari-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=0451186362\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/><\/i>, by Stephen King &#8211; and added it to the list.  Yes.  I keep a list.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0684848155?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=thesheivari-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0684848155\">Underworld<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=thesheivari-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=0684848155\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/><\/i>, by Don DeLillo &#8211; which I had started in the fall &#8211; before I went to Ireland &#8211; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=2323\">it took me FOREVER <\/a>to finish it.  The damn thing is so LONG though that I didn&#8217;t feel like i could stop reading, even though I eventually found it so boring.  I had put in so much time that I had to finish it.  So no &#8211; the whole book wasn&#8217;t worth it.  But the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=2114\">opening 100 pages<\/a>?  Cannot be touched in terms of brilliance.  The rest of the book doesn&#8217;t live up to it &#8230; but that opening. This book was literally like injesting crack.  Even though I&#8217;ve never injested crack.  I am a drug addict though. Another re-read.  Even better than the second time.  Is it wrong to have a crush on him?  Don&#8217;t worry, <a href=\"http:\/\/afterjanuary.blogspot.com\">Anne <\/a>&#8211; I won&#8217;t steal your dead boyfriend.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=2419\">I already have my own<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0786888679?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=thesheivari-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0786888679\">The Teammates: A Portrait of a Friendship<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=thesheivari-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=0786888679\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/><\/i>, by David Halberstam (here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=3280\">one of my favorite stories <\/a>from that book)<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0307209830?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=thesheivari-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=0307209830\">Cary Grant: A Biography<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=thesheivari-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=0307209830\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/><\/i> &#8211; Marc Elliot.  Bah.  Didn&#8217;t enjoy this.  Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?tag=cary-grant\">my obsessive archive<\/a>.  I love entertainment biographies &#8211; because I love anecdotes about acting and film-making.  I love to hear backstage stories about movies I love.  This book wasn&#8217;t interested in that stuff.  The filming of his movies were sidelines to the theme of the book.
