Mencken&#8217;s epitaph was:  &#8220;If, after I depart this vale, you ever rememberr me and have thought to please my ghost, forgive some sinner and wink your eye at some homely girl.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pat sent in this tale:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At her prodding [Sam Houston] began attending church services in Washington, joined the Baptist church in Huntsville, and was baptised in a Baptist ceremony at Rocky Creek near Independence in 1854.
