Thick sluggish clouds hovered to the south.  The sun was hidden.  Then, at some point, midday, the sun burst out behind us. The effect on the color of the ocean was extraordinary.  It was a day of high surf, waves teetering in one after the other, with foam so thick and tall that it sometimes reached my shoulders. When the sun came out, the ocean shimmered into a sort of sluggish green-silver, and the thick grey sky on the horizon line showed even darker by contrast.  But there were times, looking out to sea, when you could not tell when the sea ended and the sky started.  The effect only lasted for about twenty minutes, and then the sun came out for real, and the ocean blazed into blue, but for a while, we were in no-man&#8217;s land.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a
