Elvis Presley&#8217;s 1955 Cadillac is <a href=\"http:\/\/jalopnik.com\/5854571\/elvis-presleys-1955-cadillac-fleetwood-limo-to-cross-the-auction-block\/gallery\/1\">coming up for auction<\/a> at Bonham&#8217;s Classic California sale on November 12.  I have one question.  How many cherries were busted in that car?<\/p>\n<p>2.  Naturally I had to provide a clip, of Elvis Presley&#8217;s positively dirty Christmas song, &#8220;Santa Claus is Back in Town&#8221;, which includes a reference to a &#8220;big black Cadillac&#8221;.  Elvis recorded this song in 1957 at the ripe old age of 22, which just makes his confidently nasty performance here that much more remarkable.  It was the first track on his Christmas album, which is filled to the gills with beautiful and traditional renderings of Christmas classics like &#8220;O Little Town of Bethlehem&#8221; and &#8220;Silent Night&#8221;, a couple of gospel favorites like &#8220;There Will Be Peace in the Valley&#8221;, and the now-classic &#8220;Blue Christmas&#8221;, with the loopy soprano going apeshit in the background.  But the whole album leads off with the sheerly sexual to the point of public indecency &#8220;Santa Claus Is Back in Town&#8221;.  If you want to hear why Elvis Presley was controversial, don&#8217;t listen to &#8220;Heartbreak Hotel&#8221; (although listen to that, too).  Listen to &#8220;Santa Claus is Back in Town&#8221; and listen to how he sings the line &#8220;You be a real good little girl  &#8230;&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Tom Petty says it better, so I&#8217;ll let him take over:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Santa Claus is coming down your chimney tonight&#8221; sounds absolutely filthy when Elvis sings it. It might be his best blues vocal ever, with those beautiful stops that nobody could do but him. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The fact that it starts with a gentle traditional quartet, singing &#8220;Christmaaaaaas&#8230;.&#8221; in a churchy way makes what happens afterwards even more psychotic.  Listen to him cackle during the bridge.  It&#8217;s radical, it&#8217;s insane.<\/p>\n<p>And so Elvis&#8217; big black cadillac is for sale. I&#8217;m ready to hang up my pretty stockings and turn off the light, Santa!<\/p>\n<p>Dear rich readers: My birthday is November 27.
