To coincide with opening day and all that &#8230; the start of baseball season.  I love people who think UP film festivals like this one.  I love some of the observations:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Comedy, like baseball, is a whatever-works kind of activity: it doesn&#8217;t matter much how you get the laugh or how you move the runner over, so long as you do it. And the game is in a sense inherently comic, just because there&#8217;s so much failure in it.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the dirty little secret of the best baseball picture of all, Ron Shelton&#8217;s 1988 &#8220;Bull Durham,&#8221; whose hero, one Crash Davis, is a 30-something catcher chasing the dubious record of most home runs by a minor leaguer. This movie is about success in failure, surviving your dreams rather than about fulfilling them, which gives it an appealing, and kind of sneaky, modesty: it&#8217;s all bunts and hard slides and singles slapped through holes in the infield, and it winds up beating the swing-for-the-fences baseball epics of its era by a country mile.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I love <i>Field of Dreams<\/i> myself &#8211; in particular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=37927\">that WIFE<\/a> &#8211; and I agree that that film (at least for me) is not so much about baseball, but about what baseball <i>means<\/i> to those of us who love it.  It&#8217;s history, it&#8217;s family, it&#8217;s memory, it&#8217;s the 5 senses &#8230; Etc.<\/p>\n<p>I LOVE the idea of this film festival, I love that it&#8217;s being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moma.org\/events\/film\/2006\/april_1-15_2006.html\">hosted at MOMA <\/a> and I am going to try and catch some of these films on the big screen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a fabulous series!!
