It is one of the most powerful poems I have ever read.<\/p>\n<p>John Milton was going blind. He wrote this sonnet &#8220;on his blindness&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><b>On His Blindness <\/b><br \/>\n<i>by John Milton<\/i><\/p>\n<p>When I consider how my light is spent,<br \/>\nEre half my days, in this dark world and wide,<br \/>\nAnd that one Talent which is death to hide,<br \/>\nLodg&#8217;d with me useless, though my Soul more bent<br \/>\nTo serve therewith my Maker, and present<br \/>\nMy true account, least he returning chide,<br \/>\nDoth God exact day-labour, light deny&#8217;d,<br \/>\nI fondly ask; But patience to prevent<br \/>\nThat murmur, soon replies, God doth not need<br \/>\nEither man&#8217;s work or his own gifts, who best<br \/>\nBar his milde yoak, they serve him best, his State<br \/>\nIs Kingly.
