{"id":4941,"date":"2006-06-14T13:33:35","date_gmt":"2006-06-14T17:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=4941"},"modified":"2010-07-15T11:13:48","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T15:13:48","slug":"the-envy-that-i-feel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sheilaomalley.com\/?p=4941","title":{"rendered":"Rufus Wainwright at Carnegie Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The envy that I feel for those who will be there for <a href=\"http:\/\/rufuswainwright.com\/carnegiehall\/\">this event <\/a> tonight and tomorrow night &#8230; is really beyond words.<\/p>\n<p>I actually kind of ACHE about it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a genius conception, first of all &#8211; what a ballsy idea &#8211; so RUFUS-ish of him!!  I love the oh-so-shy (and, of course, ironic and snarky) &#8220;WORLD&#8217;S GREATEST ENTERTAINER&#8221; on the poster &#8230; hahahaha  He&#8217;s so lovely.  He really is.  And if he pulls it off (which I imagine he is capable of) &#8230; what an incredible night it will be.<\/p>\n<p>I hope they film it and &#8230; oh &#8230; next year it&#8217;s an HBO special or something like that.<\/p>\n<p>I saw him perform on Valentine&#8217;s Day, 2002 at Town Hall here in NYC.  Allison and I went.  Someday I&#8217;ll write about the special-ness of that concert.  If you ever get a chance to see him perform, I say: do it.  He&#8217;s marvelous in person.  The voice is just as good as it is on the albums (which obviously, in this day and age of lip synching and double\/triple tracking of the voice is not always the case) &#8211; and he&#8217;s real old-school.  An old-school crooner.  Old-school except for his flowy patchwork bellbottom pants, of course.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s an amazing performer (even when he was a bit drunk, like he was the night I saw him) &#8211; and I am soooo jealous of those who will be there tonight that I kinda can&#8217;t even deal with it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The envy that I feel for those who will be there for this event tonight and tomorrow night &#8230; is really beyond words.
