\nSo I looked around and I noticed there wasn\u0092t a chair.
\nI sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
\nWe talked until two and then she said, “it\u0092s time for bed”.
\nShe told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
\nI told her I didn\u0092t and crawled off to sleep in the bath.
\nAnd when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown.
\nSo I lit a fire, isn\u0092t it good, norwegian wood.<\/p>\n
I always saw the story of this song as ending in an act of arson, not quiet contemplation by the fireplace in her empty apartment.<\/p>\n
I pictured him setting a fire in the middle of that empty room, and walking out, letting the whole place go up in flames. Arson as revenge for being “had” by her. Arson as revenge for her laughter at him, for making him sleep in the bath.<\/p>\n
