\nfor what it was, something we can accept,
\nmistakes made by the selves we had to be,
\nnot able to be, perhaps, what we wished,
\nor what looking back half the time it seems
\nwe could so easily have been, or ought…
\nThe future, yes, and even for the past,
\nthat it will become something we can bear.
\nAnd I too, and my children, so I hope,
\nwill recall as not too heavy the tug
\nof those albatrosses I sadly placed
\nupon their tender necks. Hope for the past,
\nyes, old Frost, your words provide that courage,
\nand it brings strange peace that itself passes
\ninto past, easier to bear because
\nyou said it, rather casually, as snow
