Quite a talented family. I love Frank Xavier’s stuff a bit more because of his bohemian subjects – the almost circus-y quality – Harlequins, ballerinas – like Madeleine and Pepito being kidnapped by gypsies and joining the circus (which, surprise, surprise, was my favorite of the Madeleine books). Instead of portraying just mainstream folks … he portrays the fringe-dwellers, the artists, the freaks, the contortionists, the burlesques. My peeps.<\/p>\n
Like this, too, from 1921:<\/p>\n
\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I am in love with that.
