… an entire life can be lived. Yesterday I was up at 4 a.m. … and all of the photos taken below come from before 7 a.m.<\/p>\n

Dawn in Manhattan. It’s otherworldly.<\/p>\n

5:30 a.m. This is the view from the end of my street.<\/p>\n

\nAnother view of Manhattan – a bit north of midtown.<\/p>\n

\nEven farther north. God … spectacular.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nWalking to catch the bus. Glancing to my right, repeatedly … for the views. The city can be seen at the end of every street or alley.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nIn the city now. It’s 6 a.m. Port Authority … already awake and handling its everyday duties.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\n6 a.m. Some human needs never slumber. A little peeping, a little palm reading, a little pawn-shopping …<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nWalking cross-town. Saw a dusty truck. Everywhere you look (seriously, everywhere) you can see remnants, memories, memorials … you just need to know HOW to look. You can’t walk 3 steps without seeing something like this.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nI turn north. I head towards Times Square. Amazons towering above me in the dawn light.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nTimes Square at dawn. Seriously – it is surreal. It’s surreal in mid-day as well … but at dawn? FanTAStic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\nDawn patrol.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\nThe Nasdaq never sleeps. We do … but it does not.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\nThis way, please.<\/p>\n

\nNow here – you can see the glow of sunrise on that one patch of building. Shivers! I saw that and felt what Emily Byrd Starr would call “the flash”.<\/p>\n

\nSomehow incongrous … this little old-fashioned looking building surrounded by corporate gleam.<\/p>\n
