I love the friendship of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville – intense kindred spirits and artistic allies. Hawthorne “got” Melville’s greatness long before Melville’s reputation was rehabilitated posthumously. Moby Dick<\/i> is, of course, dedicated to Nathaniel Hawthorne.<\/p>\n
