Last night, I had a nightmare about James K. Polk’s gallstone operation. I had just read a harrowing description of it – and could not (still cannot, actually) get it out of my mind (if you don’t know what was done to him, Google around, you’ll eventually find it). No anesthesia, no antiseptic – I cannot even imagine. He was 17 years old when it was done.<\/p>\n
I woke up at 2 am, with my hands clutching at my own legs … trying to stave off the surgeon’s knife from 1811 as it were.<\/p>\n
I had a big president’s day thing planned but couldn’t do it. James K. Polk’s agony will have to do instead!<\/p>\n
The no comments thing will probably be temporary. I just can’t have comments right now. i need to preserve my energy – and I don’t know, it feels right at the moment.<\/p>\n
