<\/a><\/p>\n\nI’ve been watching the films coming out of Romania over the last 10 years with growing excitement. There’s a “New Wave” going on there right now, amazing films, social, political, spiritual, sometimes harrowing (4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days<\/i>), sometimes ironic and ridiculous (12:08 East of Bucharest<\/i> = My thoughts here<\/a>). And then, of course, there was Beyond the Hills<\/i>, one of the best films from last year. At least it’s on my Top 10<\/a>. (My thoughts on that horrifying film here.<\/a>)<\/p>\n Child’s Pose<\/i> won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale, and is also Romania’s Oscar entry in the foreign category. It is a hell of a film, and features an amazing performance by its lead actress, Luminita Gheorghiu. If you’ve been following Romanian film, you will know her face. What a phenomenal actress. <\/p>\n Child’s Pose<\/i> opens today in the United States in limited release.
