This is hysterical

I'm sure you've all seen the photo of Kerry's daughter wearing a COMPLETELY see-through dress. It's everywhere.

On my Yahoo Home Page, the "most emailed photos" of the day are on display - and a lot of times, they are relevant with world events - but most of the time they are just boobs, etc. Which is ridiculous, seeing as I'm a woman, and I'm not impressed.

HOWEVER. This is what I find so funny.

Here is the ubiquitous picture of the see-through dress. What cracks me up is the caption. It's not even under-statement. It's NO statement. I laughed out loud when I saw it.

Like: ohhhh, is THAT what the picture is?? THAT'S how you describe that picture?

Seems to me it would be more appropriate to caption it:

"Here is a photo of a completely inappopriate dress, with nipples fully charging forth in plain view..."

You have to wonder if the caption writer even looked at the picture. I can just imagine the captions if this had been one of the Bush daughters. "Bush daughter in horrific fashion mistake, was alcohol involved?"

Red, we are talking about Cannes. The girl would have probably been shunned to a dingy back room if she wasn't wearing some form of inappropriate dress...

I'm sure that that is not a partisan caption. I just think it's someone scratching their head, saying, "How do I NOT mention the nipples and her naked body??"

MikeR: I'm not shocked at the dress, dude. I'm laughing at the bland caption.

And if you think if I ever go to Cannes, that I will wear an "appropriate" dress, you are out of your MIND.

:)

It's a shrewd move to show both your nipples when your daddy's running for president of country that went apeshit a few months ago over a singular nipple.

The caption might have read, "Alexandra Throws Down the Gauntlet for Bush Twins," or "Kerry Reveals Strategy Aimed at NASCAR Dads," or "Kerry Courts French Support."

So, the two big stories to come out of Cannes thus far are Michael Moore's harangue against Bush and Alexandra's debut.

Stay tuned.

But, they aren't even *good* breasts! And what's with her nipples? Were they rouged? Dipped in cherry chocolate? Painted to look like Bozo's nose?

I think we saw more than the gauntlet thrown down to the Bush twins. I think we saw the unveiling of the Kerry twins.

It's a nice color, that dress.

She looks cold, though.

A perfect example of what happens when you get dressed in the dark.

God whacked that family with the ugly stick!

Okay, am I the only one who thinks those look like a pattern on the dress, rather than something actually see-thru?

Actually, I agree with an earlier comment that the caption was not written by American wire service. Considering that it TWICE began with "US ..." (once for her profession, once for that her dad is US Candidate). American wire services don't see the need to add that; they think everyone in the world already knows who is American.

It is too staid for Parisian wire services; they would have commented on the plain dress or lack of accessories. It would appear to a European caption, though. American services WOULD remark on the see-through aspect, and would likely use it as a political slap to her dad's campaign. Europeans are much more accepting of sex and fashion expression.

OK red, clearly I've once again failed miserably in an effort to provide a mildly humorous rejoinder. ;-)

Sheer, bra-less black dresses do seem to be a major part of the the modern Hollywood "dress code" - not that I'm complaining...

Posted by: MikeR at May 18, 2004 10:49 AM

It's inappropriate because:
1. She's way too ugly to carry it off.
2. She doesn't have the body for it.
3. If you are going to wear that dress, what is up with suddenly deciding you need to wear panties with it?
4. It proves if you are the democrat candidate, you need to hide your daughters from public view.

MikeR: failed miserably?? No, man, don't say that!! I was trying to come back with a witty rejoinder and I, apparently, failed miserably.
