My addiction

to Veiled Conceit continues to grow. This is the blogger who CRUCIFIES the pretensions of the New York Times wedding announcements on a daily basis. Nothing gets past this guy's contemptuous eye ... so funny.

In this entry, he makes fun of the wedding registries.

My favorite sentence: "You can only buy so many bed skirts before you look in the mirror at night and whisper to yourself "What have I done with my life?"

A $2800 menorah? Ack. Dude, I had my fingers crossed for a CROCKPOT!

How practical I was then. Why was I asking for useful items such as towels, glasses, and plates? I should have beggared my friends and family for a Rosenthal USA Versace Butterfly Tray 8.5" ($298) or maybe a Waterford Floral 8" Rose Bowl ($250)!

Ah, youth and its low standards!

When I register, I will ask for a $2000 Advent calendar, see if someone gives it to me.

Wedding announcements aren't nearly as pathetic as the people who set up websites devoted to their "love". I found a bunch of them through loserlinks.com. They're hysterical - some of them have a lot of detail and you can tell tons of effort was put into them. Like they'll have these linked sections - "the courtship", "the proposal", "the engagement", complete with photos and stories. One even had this angry message once they realized they were getting visitors from the loser site - "you may NOT link to this site if you are doing it to make fun of us" etc.

loserlinks ... heh heh heh

Emily, please promise me: If I ever do anything like put up a website commemorating some love affair with links to "the proposal" and "the courtship", please please please come and slap me upside the head. Hard. Then we'll go out for some drinks.

If you do, I promise to whack you in the head with your $2000 advent calendar.

For a time, I considered making a joke "love" site, but have the couple be like a man and a goat or something.

"I never expected that a simple errand to the livestock farm would change my life so enormously forever..."

Or with a guy and a blow-up doll.

Emily - actually, one of Edward Albee's latest plays is called "The Goat" and it pretty much has that as the plot. I saw Bill Pullman do it ... freakin' brilliant. He played it COMPLETELY REAL. He was tormented by love for ... a goat.

Yeah, red. Like Dennis Hopper's character in The River's Edge. That was one of the most romantic love stories of all time.

My vote is for the poor "W" coaster who had been ostracized by the "M"'s. HA HAH HAHAHAH! Where does s/he get this stuff????
