"No one has written about air like Saint-Exupéry."

A beautiful essay on Saint-Exupéry's flight books by Robert Macfarlane. I'm a huge Saint-Ex fan, and have been since high school, when I read Wind Sand and Stars. Beautiful - I never get tired of his books, just read them over and over.

I have yet to read him, but his stuff is on the list. I read and loved Eddie Rickenbacker's "Fighting the Flying Circus." You should try that one.

popskull, try "Days on the Wing", or the ACE re-released version titled "Flying in Flanders" - the memoirs of Willy Coppens.

Sheila - funny you should bring up St. Ex - just last week I was having a reading contest in French with a friend of mine, reading from Le Petit Prince. I realized that I was actually kind of cheating because I know the book so well in both english and french....
