My world view is, apparently, "Cultural Creative". As usual with these quizzes, there are very few surprises. However, I did find it interesting that I fit in to "the newest group to enter this realm". Yeah, man. I'm a trailblazer. I always knew it.
You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.
What is Your World View? (corrected...hopefully) created with QuizFarm.com |
I got this quiz from "Postmodernist Beth" who just got engaged!
Posted by sheilaI guess I shouldn't really be surprised at the Materialist coming out on top.
As for the other scores.. well they're just an indication of the many varied influences that have shaped who I am... hmmm.
"Materialism stresses the essence of fundamental particles. Everything that exists is purely physical matter and there is no special force that holds life together. You believe that anything can be explained by breaking it up into its pieces. i.e. the big picture can be understood by its smaller elements.
Materialist 69%
Existentialist 63%

Very interesting! Not very idealistic over there in Mongolia, eh? :)
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 02:09 PMYou scored as Fundamentalist.
Fundamentalism represents a movement in opposition to Modernism, stressing the highest importance on foundational religious tradition. Science has brought on corruption of society. God is real and is watching. Scripture leaves little room for interpretation; man is God’s creation. About a quarter of the population in the U.S. is classified as Fundamentalist.

Ew. I believe in God, so now I'm lumped in with the Jerry Falwells? WhatEV.
Lisa, if you are in opposition to Modernism, I don't believe you would have set the VCR to tape Britney and Rat-boy Husband last night. :)
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 02:20 PMIt would appear not, Sheila...
..idealism must be swept away by the high Steppes winds outside my imperfect, but practical, yurt. :)
Posted by: peteb at May 18, 2005 02:21 PMInteresting diversity of results. Mine:
Cultural Conservative-69
Existentialist- 44
Idealist- 44
Romanticist- 31
Fundamentalist- 19
Postmodernist- 19
Modernist- 19
Materialist- 6
DBW - Cultural creative, not conservative. heh heh heh We've got politics on the brain here, even though WE NEVER SPEAK OF IT HERE ON MY BLOG. :)
I love that everyone's responses so far are very different.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 02:31 PMI think I didn't understand some of the questions. For example: Life has been a self-alienation of the divine and we're moving closer to realizing our true nature. What the hell does THAT mean?
I must confess that I only taped the 30 minutes of WhiteTrashpalooza. For some reason, I assumed it was just a half-hour show, not an hour. My inner Jerry Falwell doesn't want me to know their ENTIRE truth, I guess.
Posted by: Lisa at May 18, 2005 02:35 PMI didn't know what "self-alienation of the divine" meant either.
I have my inner Jerry Falwell tied up in the basement with duct tape over his big fat mouth. He's been down there for years.

Lisa: Belief in God *is* pretty much fundamental...
Posted by: mitch at May 18, 2005 02:48 PMAh, but Mitch ... but put that "ist" at the end of the word "fundamental" - ya get a whole new meaning.
I believe in God, and I'm 6% "fundamentalist" (I mean - according to the dumb quiz) so obviously the quiz doesn't quantify fundamentalism on belief in God.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 02:49 PMApparently, I'm an existentialist. I'll have to take their word for it, because even in college, I never understood what that meant. I guess that explains why I only scored 59% - apparently, I'm not a very good Existentialist.
Existentialist 59%

Say, have you taken the taboo test yet?
Moralizing: 0.57
Interference: 0.00
Universality: 1.00
The only thing I got over 50% on was Cultural Creative at 81% which would cool if I really knew what that term meant (The definition is kind of "squishy", almost sounding like "New Age")
Posted by: JFH at May 18, 2005 03:03 PM88% Existentialist, but something like 60%+ postmodernist? WTF?
Posted by: Emily at May 18, 2005 03:24 PMY'see, that's kicked off SO many theological arguments. I'm a conservative who's generally for gay rights and (pick a few other quasi-liberal causes). So my lefty friends say "Hey, you're not a fundamentalist".
And I reply "well, yeah I am! The whole salvation through faith and works thing - Jesus is my lord and savior, yadda yadda - that's fundamentalist".
Just, not, Jihadi.
I see a lot of heads exploding...
Posted by: mitch at May 18, 2005 03:50 PMMost words ending in "ist" have wonderful actual meanings - but have been hijacked or misinterpreted beyond recognition. To me, fundamentalist = intolerant. Like to many people, feminist = castrating bitch. I'm a feminist. But I'm no castrating bitch. Any time a word like that becomes a right-or-wrong black-or-white ideology, I run screaming into the night.
I fear certainty mixed with self-righteousness above all else. To me, that's what fundamentalism is all about. "I'm right. OBVIOUSLY. For self-evident reasons. You are to be consumed in the flaming fires of hell unless you accept that I am right."
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 03:59 PMI got "Cultural Creative" too, although my secondaries are different from Sheila's. Knowing myself as I do, the real answer in my case may be "poorly catechized Catholic".... ;-)
Posted by: Ken Hall at May 18, 2005 03:59 PMKen - hahahahahaha
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 04:00 PMMy assumption that I didn't get a higher Fundamentalist score is the questions about the "literal" interpretation of the Bible. Does even the stanchest fundamentalist believe that when Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches", that he meant that literally?
Posted by: JFH at May 18, 2005 04:54 PMMy problem with fundamentalists is that they actually don't believe that I believe in God properly. I have to believe JUST LIKE THEM or I am doomed to the fiery pits of eternity. I find that so offensive. I must have been a fundamentalist of some kind in a former life or something - I have such a strong visceral dislike of them.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 04:57 PMNot to mention the fact that they think my gay friends are going to hell, and insist on putting quotation marks around the word 'marriage' when discussing gay marriage.
JFH,
It asked if you agreed that the majority of scripture should be taken literally. Do I think Jesus meant he was a literal vine and had leaves and stuff? No. Do I think He is the figurative vine from which the apostles branched, and thus take it literally when he says "I am the vine and ye are the branches"? Yes. Does that make sense?
All this existenial/material/fundamental is making my head hurt. CAN'T WE TALK ABOUT BRITNEY?! :sob:
Posted by: Lisa at May 18, 2005 05:02 PMLisa - hahahaha Your inner Jerry Falwell just screamed!!
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 05:02 PMLisa - this is for your sheer and unadulterated pleasure.
HILARIOUS.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 05:04 PMGirl, I read that first thing this morning.
This was the best:
The show is like an extremely boring car crash: it sucks and really nothing at all happens in the end, but nevertheless you can't look away, the only true entertainment value being the constant and very real threat that at any minute either of Britney's gigantic bodyguards might kick the shit out of K-Fed, whom they obviously hate.
TWoP is one of my hubs. Back when they recapped Trading Spaces, I LIVED in their forums. Stee used to recap American Idol, and he is hilARious. He'll make mincemeat of Chaotic.
Posted by: Lisa at May 18, 2005 05:08 PMHow about the description "wimpy vaginal beard". Oh. My. God. Can that be more perfect? His beard has always skeeved me out and now I know why.

But I'm so curious about the ketchup and coke pork chops and Dorito salad that was eaten at the Britney and Kevin premiere. I'm thinking I'm going to have to have my own Finale party with the same menu. And everyone will wear cut offs and flip flops and stained t-shirts and we'll drink Bud through a beer bong and Diet Pepsi.
So, you know I'm wondering...
They didn't really have any food questions though, I bet my results would change if they did.
im 100% Existentialist and 3% Fundementalist..sounds about right.
Posted by: mitchell at May 18, 2005 07:06 PMMitchell - you are 100% existentialist?? I love it!
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 07:09 PMLisa,
So the biggest question of the night is:
Is Britney one of the branches? 'Cus if she's on my branch, I want a graft to a new one (BTW, "I" was the strong one of the family, my wife wanted to watch or TiVo the show, but instead I took the higher ground, "Think of the children, what if they accidentally saw part of an episode!")
Posted by: JFH at May 18, 2005 07:10 PMsusie: hahahaha "drink bud through a beer bong" ... you have to do that!
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 08:01 PMHm, I appear to be the first Postmodernist (94%) to post results here. So lonely...
Posted by: Nathan at May 18, 2005 08:43 PMNathan - the girl I got the quiz from is Postmodernist. You are not alone. Of course, the word "alone" has to be seen its proper context.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 08:46 PMWe haven't had one Romanticist show up. I'm curious to hear the description. Especially since I scored SO DAMN LOW on it.
Posted by: red at May 18, 2005 09:04 PMSheila--My "Cultural Conservative" was a little joke. I meant to get back here for your expected reaction, but I got sidetracked with father/son duties. You know I am a political being, but not to that extent--not yet, anyway.
Posted by: DBW at May 18, 2005 09:47 PMDBW - hahaha I thought it was just a little subconscious slip-up. :)
