OH my God

This might be my favorite overheard-in-NY yet.

Not sure why. I just love its observatory nature. Beautiful.

You just made me laugh out loud in my malignant hematology clinic. That is tough to do!

I'm sure this helped alleviate any possible misinterpretation

Hahahahaha

Best. Overheard. Ever.

Completely OT (but not violating "Red's restrictive rules regarding responses"... yeah, I get alliterative on Friday afternoons):

Jay - How many times a week do you hear the joke about the difference between a hematologist and a urologist? I asked a urologist this at party recently and he said about once a day.

Let me say it one more time:

If you came onto this thread, JFH, and made some off topic comment about politics or "lefties" or "Bushies' - THEN I would have a problem.

Otherwise - just feel free to chat away.

Okay...so is this the place where we can talk about the Tom Cruise crossdressing revelations?

Posted by: Emily at August 26, 2005 04:12 PM

emily - I forwarded it to Alex immediately. I believe she is working on a post about it. Stay tuned ...

JFH - I've never heard the joke ... what is the difference??

Posted by: red at August 26, 2005 04:21 PM

"Tom Cruise crossdressing revelations?"

LINK!! I need that LINK. "dammit".

Posted by: peteb at August 26, 2005 04:21 PM

"Here" it is, Pete.

Posted by: Emily at August 26, 2005 04:23 PM

hahahaha.

I found this report on the story

I'm particularly impressed by their Message Board question - "How much would you pay to see pics of Tom in Drag?"

Although I'm not sure, beyond the friend of dorothy reference, where the Wizard of Oz connection comes from?

The hematologist pricks your finger...

$20 says the driver was from Jersey.

Sheila, believe it or not I was thinking today that you have popularized this method of writing. Words followed by periods to denote emphasis and the way in which it would sound if said aloud. Our children will study your contribution to English discourse someday. I'm sure of it. :-)

Patrick, FYI: Sheila (and Jonah Goldberg) may have helped popularize it, but I believe its origin actually lies with Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

I know I stole it from Rachel Lucas. Who, sadly, hasn't blogged a word since May.

Posted by: red at August 27, 2005 07:01 AM

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing, Sheila; I actually e-mailed Rachel about that a couple of years ago and I think she said SHE couldn't remember whether she invented it or whether she had seen it somewhere else. I don't think she ever really got back into it after quitting the first time.
