"What movies did you like when you saw them but have no particular desire to ever watch again? Did they pack too much of a punch? Or would they just not be entertaining a second time?"
Good question!
The first thing that came to my mind was The Ring. Extremely well done film, but, quite frankly, so terrifying that I found the entire thing almost unpleasant, and literally could not sleep after I had seen it. No need to see that again.
I'll probably come up with more. Go on over there and join the convo.
Posted by sheilaYou thought The Ring was scary? That's surprising, because I'm a total wuss when it comes to scary movies - we're talking waking up in the middle of the night and having to pee really, really bad and telling myself "put a cork in it, sister. It's dark out there" just because the boogie man might be lurking behind the furniture or something - and it didn't even make me flinch.

The ring really scared the crap outta me. There was something about the way they rapid advanced her in those scenes where she came out of the tv. And the way my sister's cell rang when we left the theater. It put me off scary movies for a good long while.
Emily - I don't know what it was, but that movie FREAKED ME OUT. When I thought about it later, I realized there were many plot holes (like: who was that woman on the phone?) - but it rocked my world. I don't know why.
It wasn't scarier than Rosemary's Baby, but I was shocked at how much it affected me.
Posted by: red at April 26, 2004 09:11 PMEver see Scary Movie? When the creepy voice on the phone asks Carmen Electra what her favorite horror film is she instantly replies "Kazaam".
Scary movies don't really get to me, though I will admit to an occassional recurring nightmare involving the creatures from the first two (and only two, if you ask me) Aliens movies.
Posted by: Bill McCabe at April 26, 2004 09:27 PMI've only seen a couple of unpleasantly scary movies - like we're talking about here. This does not mean that they're bad films - it's just the opposite! I just don't know if I want to subject myself to them again.
Aliens is one of those movies. Not the first one, but the second one. I found that movie almost unwatchable at points.
My other unbearably scary movies:
Rosemary's Baby is probably at the top of the list
The Exorcist - not even fun to watch - too scary, too scary
and - for whatever bizarre reason -
The Ring. I almost leapt out of my window when she came out of the television.
Posted by: red at April 26, 2004 09:32 PMalthough i think A Clockwork orange is a masterpiece..i have no desire to ever see it again..it has always disturbed me for days afterward.
Posted by: Mitchell at April 26, 2004 10:45 PMDitto the television thing. As a whole it was not a scary movie. But the whole coming of the well and TV thing left very haunting mental pictures. Ugh. Put scary drowned girls up on the list with clowns.
Posted by: Dan at April 27, 2004 12:20 AMI would have to say Titanic. I'm not a big fan of the Blockbuster movie, but this thing really got to me. I coud only sit through the whole death/lovers/ship/screaming-in-the-dark thing once. I've tired to watch it again, and I never make it through.
I'm a sap.

Posted by: Beth at April 27, 2004 09:46 AMThe scene in Aliens where the colonist begs for death is really powerful.
The first time I watched it, when I was 12 or 13, that was the scene where my father reached down, grabbed my head, and said "boo".
