And I'm strangely saddened by the news that Johnny Ramone has died.
That band ... I don't know. It has mythic connotations to me. To so many of us. The Ramones are wrapped up in my own life-story. So - I feel that something of myself has also passed.
I posted in August about the fact that a 30-year anniversary concert was being planned for Sept. 12.
The concert went on, as scheduled. And Johnny Ramone died 3 days later.
Rest in peace, and thanks for everything.
Posted by sheilaThe Ramones will always be the band that links me to my youth. They were New York to me. Ours.
Rest in Peace, Johnny.
And thanks.
Damn.

I've seen the Ramones dozens of times, and have met all of them. The death of Johnny shuts the door on a great era of New York music.
Over the past ten or so years, the passings of Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Robert Quine, Arthur Kane, Wendy Williams, Nico, Sterling Morrison, and others, have made the punk era seem so distant in time.
