When I was (9) yrs. old, I was a huge Elvis fan, it was 1957 and young, Elvis was in my town (Springfield, Mo.) for a Concert.
I wanted to go to the Concert so very bad,in hopes to see or even meet, Elvis, but I was not going to be able to. I had a “Lopsided Headed” (16) yr. old sister, who told me “Elvis” would never amount to a thing, however I called her hand on it, as even at my young age, I knew “Elvis” was the stuff legends were made of.. That particular afternoon, in 1957, my (16) yr. old sis, took me and my younger sis, to see “Ben Hur”, at the “Gillioz Theater” on St. Louise St. / Springfield, Mo. There were a mere (12) people in the uncrowded theater. I was the first of us girls, to file into the row of theater seats, I saw a young, very handsome man, sitting in the same row, I did not want to sit next to a strange man, so I left (1) vacant seat between the young man and I, My (16) yr. old sis, sat next to me, and my younger sis sat on the other side of my teenage sis. It did not take me long to quickly and carefully, “scan”, the , “young man” sitting so close to me, he had dark hair, and side burns, was wearing a black short sleeved shirt, with light blue stripes down one side of the front of his shirt, black dress slacks, black shoes, whih white tops. I leaned to my teenage sis, and told her, “Elvis Presley” was sitting on the other side of me. She glanced at the young man, and told me “No that’s not Elvis”, “It is a “Elvis Copy Cat”. I studied the man again, and told my sis once again, “That is too Elvis”, I looked at the man, he was looking stright at me, frowning at me and shaking his head “No”, I frowned back at him, and again I told my sis, “That is too Elvis”, I would know Elvis anywhere”.
The young man raised up out of his seat, he moved up very close to me, face to face, with our noses nearly touching, he placed his index finger in my face, and slowly waved it back and forth in front of my face, He told me in a very low tone “Quote”, “That is bad little girl”, you are bad”, Unquote, I frowned strongly at him, as he left his seat, and moved to the back of the Theater, “approx. ^ / 8″ rows back, he sat down with his back to the wall, and he finished watching the Movie.
After we went home it came out on the news on TV at 6:00 pm, that Elvis was in town for a Concert, and that Conol Tom Parker” had half the Police Force out looking for Elvis, because Elvis disappeared, and “Tom Parker” feared “Elvis” had been Abducted. However it came to pass that Elvis showed up back at the rail haven Motor Lodge, and explained to Tom Parker” that Elvis got board sitting around the Motel Room by himself, so he bought a News paper, and checked out the Theater adds, and he learned the “Ben Hur” was playing at the “Gilloize Theater” up the street from the Mothel where Elvis was staying, and Elvis decided to walk up to the Theater and watch the Movie, so I did after all get to see Elvis in person, my (16) yr. old sis was dumbfounded and all she could say was “Quote” well I’ll be darn, it was Elvis” Unquote.I love this memory of my encounter with Elvis.
