She posted this statement on her Twitter feed:
This moves me so much. And a couple of people sent me this clip, from Joan Jett’s appearance on The David Letterman Show singing the theme to the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
It makes perfect sense, the connection between them, the more and more you think about it.
That’s the impact of a career like Mary Tyler Moore’s.
Sheila!
Just reading your fabulous post on Mary Tyler Moore, now this! It’s so great! I always loved the song and this version! She’s so strong and sweet at the same time with such a real smile.
I love how she winks at the camera a couple of times. She’s so tough, but so sweet too.
Paying tribute. It’s so beautiful!
Sheila
I loved that wink!
I love too how she says straight into the camera every time, “Why don’t you take it?”
It’s this direct challenge daring you to be great!
Yes, she’s such a tough little punk but totally positive, warm and yes, sweet!

I love that!
She’s so awesome. I loved seeing her in December in the audience at that Wanda Jackson show. She has excellent taste in Idols.
Oh and Regina – look out – I’m going to be posting a brief little something about a movie I saw 2 days ago. It opens tomorrow – it’s something you in particular don’t want to miss. Great acting, but also it’s ABOUT theatre. Actors in rehearsal.
Thanks for this. I can’t seem to find what date or at least year this was on Letterman. Oh, we miss Dave, not least of all for the musical taste of Dave and Paul. Rock on, Joan.
I did a little search and it looks like this was 1996.
Very much miss Dave and Paul!!
