So far, I’m three for three this month at Ebert. Mad Women is awful. And not because it’s “shocking” but because it is bad. These bad movies are wearing me down.
My review of Mad Women is now up at Rogerebert.com.

I always thought Sam Winchester was the writer & director of FLANNEL PAJAMAS.
HA!!
I wish. It would have been better.
Hahaha
As I read your review, I was thinking Riger Ebert would be proud. Some of my favorite reviews of his were the cutting, no holds barred ones (except for The Usual Suspects which I chalk up to momentary madness suffered by every writer). Glad to see you are upholding that tradition.
Thank you so much, Paula, for saying what you said about Ebert!! I appreciate it.
I can’t stand writing bad reviews – it sucks my soul dry – but sometimes it has to be done.
Roger not Riger (how did that get by autocorrect?) Easy for us spectators to appreciate bad reviews. I imagine it’s like getting into a fight with a friend in public. We stand to the sidelines, saying “Burn! Oh that was good one. So true.” But you never feel good about yourself the day after the fight. Or maybe I’m totally off base with that analogy.
I appreciate this review because I love movies that get dialogues or monologues right. They are so satisfying. When they don’t, it is just painful. And not worth the time to watch. So thanks for giving me back my time.
The best thing about this excellent negative review is that it’s straight on, not cute. Which says, I think, that you really really hated the movie. Thank you–I’ll make sure not to go!
