One World Trade, in the spot where the Twin Towers used to be, last night. The colors of France.

Sheila I was just thinking of this from Casablanca! How it must of felt when the Nazis stomped through Paris. Paris! Everybody loves Paris. Sisters with NYC! So angry and sad. Thanks for this.

Yes I’m so pissed off and heartbroken. Did you see the link of people singing the Marseilleise during evacuation? Proud of human beings for their grit, and their middle-finger upraised to the murderous monsters who expect us to cower.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, and their families, with all of France, and French immigrants everywhere else.

//with all of France// And with all of those visiting who were also targeted – the Germans at the football match and the Americans at the concert hall. A Memphis man is in the band, he’s safe. It’s an attack on all peace loving people of the World. You are so right about being proud of those standing firm in the face of this. I pray for them to be encouraged and supported in the coming days and weeks.

Well, of course!! Everyone in France. Everyone trying to get to France stranded here. Everyone with family members and friends there, and those who lost family members, as well as the victims of this disgusting act. A friend of mine was in a hotel a block from the music club. She and her boyfriend are safe, but it was a very close call. I had been following the stories about the band members too – very glad they all are safe!

I’m so angry. Heavy heavy heart.

Very proud of France for their attitude. They have had a horrible year. Some idiot (a friend of mine, sadly), said on FB: “Paris?? Is nowhere safe?” Clearly he forgot the Charlie Hebdo massacre, and the massacre in the Kosher grocery store. These things all happened THIS YEAR and he’s just getting the memo now that Paris is not safe? Oh well. There are many many people whose voices I must now ignore. This always happens with an event like this. I read the news, and I am staying off social media. I can’t bear stupidity.

Yes, an attack on the entire civilized world. We’ve got your back, France.

I’m torn between horror/disgust and wonder at the support being shown worldwide. Thank you for posting this.

After 9/11 we here in New York were overwhelmed by the worldwide support of us. I suppose the rest of America felt the same way – but the experience was different for those of us in New York. When the bombings happened in London a couple years later, flowers piled up outside the embassy here and embassies around the world. Rallies held in Union Square in support – there was a rally here last night for the people of France, Beirut, Syria and Iraq. Donations to the Red Cross poured in, people wanting to help in any way they could around the world. The same thing when the bombings happened in Spain a couple years after 9/11. And natural disasters too – Haiti, the tsunami … people want to help. People DO help. Like Mr. Rogers said: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'”

There are those who see events like this as an opportunity to push their own agenda. Or to lecture others on the appropriate way to respond. I ignore these people. They think they are superior for being detached, “thoughtful.” They are not. They are useless. I look for the helpers, they are the ones who are the examples, the ones who DO.
