It’s one of my most-anticipated films of the year. Not just because of my long-standing Rocky obsession, plus my love of Sylvester Stallone, but because I think Michael B. Jordan is so excellent too (Fruitvale Station!) Plus the wonderful Tessa Thompson, so great in Dear White People (I was on the nominating committee for the Gotham Awards last year, and she won for Best Breakthrough Performance – well-deserved). Ryan Coogler directed Creed and he also directed Fruitvale Station, which was a beautiful and visceral-looking film. Exciting that he and Jordan are coming together again.
Besides which … I still can’t stop thinking about that first TRAILER.
Good GOD that is a work of art.
Creed, Mad Max: Fury Road and Magic Mike XXL get my unofficial Award for Best Trailers of the year.
Going to a press screening today at the WB screening room and I’ve been looking forward to it all week.
I also can’t wait to see Creed. I feel like it’s going to be one of the big surprises of the year, and my Rocky fandom makes it an easy sell.
Easy sell for me too. And I already love everyone involved . High hopes!!
That looks sooo good.
Just saw it. I have no words.
Of course I will eventually find the words…
Holy Mary Mother of God….
You guys, it’s beyond good. Fresh and new – but with such respect for that original franchise – and the characters of Rocky – Apollo – plus Adrian and Paulie … that it taps into that motherlode of emotion.
SO GOOD. I’m still not articulate about it – I can’t wait until it opens and we can all talk about it!
and a couple of training montages (one of my favorite things.)
and the original memorable Rocky theme is held back – for almost the entirety of the film. When it came roaring in at the 11th hour … Screenings are usually pretty solemn affairs – just because. People are busy writing down their thoughts – it’s not a normal audience. But here, when that theme burst out – a couple of people (myself included) erupted into applause.
