Ahhh, I loved Richard Linklater’s latest, a so-called “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused. Everybody Wants Some!! shows three days in the life of a group of college baseball players, in 1980. Wonderful.

Here’s my review of Everybody Wants Some!! at Rogerebert.com.

It’s very exciting that Everybody Wants Some!! will be showing at a pre-festival screening at Ebertfest.

I’ll miss it, but it should be a blast.

And thought I’d share this exchange Mitchell and I had on Facebook. It says some stuff I didn’t say in the review, although I covered my feelings pretty well in the review. Wonderful movie, absolutely loved it:

    Mitchell J. Fain Excited!!
Sheila O’Malley It’s straight-boy-central, for sure, but I love all of them and 1980 … boy, 1980 … the music alone, but add the tube socks to the mix??
Sheila O’Malley Plus the tight pants on the boys at the dance clubs, doing their disco moves? Heart-flutters.
Mitchell J. Fain Count me in
    Sheila O’Malley DUDES.
Sheila O’Malley warning: one “f” word. Thrown out in passing. Felt more like a part of the lingua franca of the time – as opposed to an expression of toxic hostility – maybe unnecessary – but interested to hear what you have to say about it.
Sheila O’Malley The film does get the homoeroticism between straight boys – frankly acknowledged – the way they put on their tight pants and admire their own asses in them, asking the other guys to admire it as well. and some of them are like, “damn. your ass really is hot. okay, let’s go find some girls.”
    Mitchell J. Fain lol!!!
Sheila O’Malley I trust Linklater somehow. There are naked bouncing boobies and all the rest – but it didn’t bug me at all. Girls get naked in college and boobs bounce around and boys love them. I see no problem.
Mitchell J. Fain I love bouncing boobies.
    Sheila O’Malley I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t, frankly.
Sheila O’Malley I should have concluded my review with that statement: “I love bouncing boobies. I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t, frankly.” I’m sure some people will call the movie sexist, so I should have drawn my line in the sand on that issue.
