So some professional news: I’m thrilled and honored to have been voted in as a member to the New York Film Critics’ Circle (NYFCC), the oldest critics organization in America. (You can read about its history here on their site. In order to be voted in, you have to be “sponsored” by an existing member (thanks, Jordan Hoffman, you rule!), who puts forward your name (and clips of your writing) to the group, presenting you as a potential candidate for membership. Then there’s a vote. 7 other critics were chosen for the “class of 2017”, all wonderful writers and thinkers, each with different outlooks, styles, tastes. I know a couple of them personally, and I know all of them in an online Film Twitter “I’ve read your work” way. I am thrilled to be in their company – and also to join the impressive roster of existing members. It’s an honor.

Thanks so much! One of the best “perks” is that all the studios and PR people now send me discs of all their upcoming movies – and so endeth the hustle to figure out what is screening when, and who to hit up for an invite, and etc. I mean, I know most of the PR people now and am on a bazillion mailing lists – but now these screeners just come to me. Can’t tell you what a relief that is, in terms of time that will be saved.
