I loved it. It was funny and weird and sweet and I loved it, but I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. So I’ll wait with my comments.

    • sheila says:

Yes, I loved the sweetness too.

And the TEASER. With that huge dinosaur. Hilarious.

Jared had some really good dry reactions in this one.

  2. Barb says:

I agree with Carolyn–I had a goofy smile on my face, almost the whole time.

    • sheila says:

Same thing with me. And then I couldn’t stop laughing – the ascot, how ANGRY Dean was about Fred. Sam: “Why do you hate Fred so much?” I was just guffawing.

  3. Michelle says:

I ADORED it. Can’t wait to watch it again!

  4. mutecypher says:

It was a lot of fun.

I understand why Dean and Sam would do it, but I was a bit bummed that they chose to fool Fred, Daphne, and Velma back into thinking ghosts weren’t real – and they didn’t enlighten Shaggy and Scooby by telling them they were right (in principle) all along about the existence of ghosts.

Hippies and talking dogs, never getting the respect they deserve.

And real estate developers… who will be the contrarian to write a story where one of them is the good guy?

    • sheila says:

Well, they didn’t want to mess with the alternate universe – and therefore ruin the texture of the show they (Dean) loved.

      Kinda like Pleasantville.

And nice callback to French Mistake.

I’ve not been happy with their “callbacks” for about a year now – but that one felt integrated, good.

    • KathyB says:

The Scooby gang are innocents. The Boys were not going to mess that up.

  5. Pat says:

I actually cackled a couple of times. I wasn’t a big fan of Scooby Do back in the day, but it was fun and refreshing to see the brothers in a unique format. I even got a little sad about a little cartoon ghost boy. I wasn’t so impressed with Sam and Dean’s likenesses, but I found Cas was done really well, even handsome(!?). It was fun to watch and I hope the actors had fun doing it.

    • sheila says:

It seemed like it must have been a blast to do – really let their hair down and be silly.

I loved when Dean was caressing what he thought was Daphne’s knee and then the lights turned on …

such a stupid joke, but I laughed out loud.

  6. Barb says:

I loved the Scooby gang, back in the day, even those crossover episodes that they did in the late 70’s. So this was double wish fulfillment for me. This episode just nailed so many things–the splashes of color, the 70’s clothes on the bad guy, Daphne’s cheerful rebuke of Dean, the “look how big my mouth is” moment. And in true SPN fashion the surprising poignancy of the ghost, the Scoobies’ freakout and the boys’ making it right again.

  7. sheila says:

Oh my God I thought it was hysterical. And goofy. (All of them running back and forth as the Scooby theme song played …) Dean swearing. The whole thing.

I guess it took them becoming a CARTOON to re-discover their libidos. (Grrrrrr.)

Still. Thought it was really in the spirit of Scooby – and also in the spirit of the Supernatural I fell in love with. Not so damn SERIOUS.

  8. Helena says:

    Welp.

It was very sweet fan letter to Scooby Doo, and there were a few lines/jokes that made me laugh out loud, although my favourite moment was probably Daphne’s ‘AM I GOING TO HELL?’. Overall I’m glad that the mystery was solved AND the Scooby Gang’s world view was left unshattered.

    • Jessie says:

This was kinda how I saw it too Helena! Once I realised it was more about Scooby Doo and cartoons as a genre than it was about S&D&SPN I was able to settle in and enjoy it for what it was. I got a few good chuckles out of it. The shot of Velma turning her head to camera and blushing after Sam asked what’s the deal with the shoulders was a perfect beautiful jewel.

  9. Melanie says:

I’ve watched it 3 times already. I was a huge Scooby Doo fan back in the day. I loved how unhinged the gang became when they thought ghosts were real: Velma “I’ll get a rifle. ” Daphne “I’ll get 2 rifles.” And Fred’s hair was total a complete wreck, then when their world was restored to order he smoothes the hair back into it’s perfectly molded shape and says, “back to the malt shop.” I loved how protective Dean was and how exasperated Sam was. Dean’s speech about the importance of Scooby in his childhood was bittersweet. So many good lines and ‘bits as you’ve all pointed out. Loved it and laughed a lot!

  10. Kirinleaf says:

Season 13 is finally airing in my country! I’m caught up!

So Scoobynatural was on last night for me – such a relief to enjoy it, after all the buildup.

I actually thought initially this was going to be how they reintroduced Gabriel (one end-of-episode teaser, then nothing for what feels like aeons?? Come on!), but fortunately was mildly spoiled on that point so I didn’t spend the entire episode wondering if he was going to appear. As it turned out, I really liked the premise, and love how it spun back onto the “real world” explanation/resolution of the case.

And as your semi-resident Castiel stan, I would like to second the observation that (unlike poor Dean), Cas was quite well-served by the cartoon format, even though his outfit reverted back to the season 10-12 potato-sack coat and sad striped tie. I was live-texting the episode with a friend, and just as I made the observation that even in Scooby Doo, Cas doesn’t get to do anything (this just after the ghost fight where he’s just hovering in the background), suddenly there he was – rescuing Shaggy and Scooby! Healing Shaggy! Getting the last word in, in a way that paid tribute to his old literal-ism but didn’t make him sound ridiculous!

Also, Scooby Dean in his “nightrobe” is an image I will cherish. (I just want him to be comfortable and allow himself to enjoy having nice things!)

And finally, go Velma! Get some of that broad-shouldered action!
