In Every House

Preparing for my Elvis talk in Memphis, I suddenly remembered a fantastic comment from Twitter. A long while back, I posted something about Elvis and people Retweeted it, so it was getting a lot of play and generating a lot of comments from people I didn’t know.

My favorite was this. Blunt, funny, Irish, and eloquent as hell:

“My dad was a bin (garbage) man in the 60s in Belfast. They’d to go through the house to get the bin back then. In Catholic homes there was a picture of the Pope, JFK, & Elvis. In Protestant, there were pictures of The Queen, Prime Minister… & Elvis!”

  1. Darn it. I was just there last weekend. So sorry I’m going to miss this but sending very best wishes! (Any chance there will be video or a transcript?)

Oh wow, no way, you were just there??

I’m going to see if I can video it – and if not, then yes, will definitely put up a transcript once the whole thing is over (complete with the clips I’m incorporating).

      Should be a great time!

Life has been kind of chaotic for me lately, so I haven’t been around here for a while, but I had to just write you a message because…. This is seriously so EXCITING, Sheila! Elvis AND acting in one talk?! If ever there was something you should be giving a talk on, it’s this. I wish you the best of luck (but you don’t need it, I mean really) and I look forward to reading it! And if you can get it on video, even better.

Brooke – hi! thank you!! It’s been a very exciting time for me and this is just beyond! I had so much fun picking out all the clips to illustrate my points – which is basically “Elvis movies are fun, let’s celebrate him.” I’m really excited and everyone I have run into here is looking forward to it – so that makes me excited too. “Oh, you’re doing that? Yeah, I heard about it and was like Oh man I gotta check that out …”

      Elvis, man. He still sells.

      Thanks agai!

will definitely post the transcript when it’s all over. Such a busy schedule here in Memphis until then – booked back to back with films and panels – so not too much time to stress out. :)
