Rhys Ifans plays Dylan Thomas in his final hours in Last Call. I reviewed for Ebert.

I hate every minute of the premise. I am dying to see it.

    (Captivating review, though)

It’s funny, Emily, I flashed on you as I watched it – we talked about him so much back in the old blog days. Didn’t we all go to the White Horse Tavern that time you came here for … Restaurant at the End of the Universe? With the freakin’ Jar Jar Binks doll? lol am I remembering the locale wrong?

I’d be curious to hear what you think!

Chumley’s. Bill brought Jar Jar (dude, like you so had no plus one). We went to Whitehorse. Wayyyy too crowded. That’s okay. I got to stand ten feet away from a spot where Dylan Thomas once almost left a puke stain on the floor before the gurney arrived. It was a great night.

hahahaha I still remember the pictures we took of Jar Jar at the bar. and yeah it was so crowded!

sadly the White Horse Tavern is now under new management – or it was sold? not sure – the sign is still up and I think they’re still calling it the White Horse – but New York so sucks in taking care of its landmarks. Of course nobody’s really going to bars here now anyway.

and Chumley’s is closed too. so glad you got to experience it – one of my favorite places!
