Zoey Deutch and Aubry Dullin as Jean Sebert and Jean-Paul Belmondo in Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, one of my favorite films of the year.
The film is a maze of mirrors, with mirror moments in almost every scene. There are so many mirror moments in Breathless as well, so the motif fits in this wonderful film about the making of Breathless. In this scene, Jean-Luc Godard (Marbeck) stands behind his two lead actors, with cameraman Raoul Coutard (Matthieu Penchinat), all four crammed into the tiniest bathroom on the planet, and he calls out different emotions for the actors to play, in quick succession. Joy! Horror! Disgust! Despair!
