The first sentence of Roger Ebert’s review for The Ring 2 is:

I am not sure I entirely understand the deer.

I totally didn’t get the deer, except that there were some deer antlers (I think) in the basement of that house – but no one really explained why they were there, either.

What I hated most about this movie was the director’s insistence that we are all idiots and didn’t get it the first time he hinted that the annoying kid only calls his mother Rachel and not mommy.

Ok, just read your review of the movie. I agree with everything. Took my 12 yr old to see it (horror movie buff that he is) and he giggled through most of it.

Apparently deer are silly antogonists. I wrote a script (with a villain who has antlers) for PGL last year and alot of the feedback was like, “not bad writing, but I couldn’t stop laughing at the deer.”

I liked the atmosphere of the first film, but I was well aware the plot had some elements that were going to be difficult for them to ever make sense of in the sequel. I had a bad feeling about the whole project.

And Oh Lord, now they’re saying Samara was an abused child? What a despicably easy way out.
