It really is a bit incredible. Put in any name – and somehow Kevin Bacon is connected to it. There are only 3 degrees of separation between Kevin Bacon and Rudoph Valentino, for example.

Very cool – the kind of thing the Internet was invented for! It’s much easier to play the Six Degrees game when a piece of software – rather than a human being – is trawling through IMDB.
Considering that the original “Six degrees of Separation” posits that everyone in the world is connected by no less than six degrees of separation it really is no surprise that Kevin Bacon can be used in such an insular world as ‘entertainment’. I think it would be more interesting to use this to find ANY two connections.
Why the quotation marks around entertainment?
HAH!!! THREE!!!
The Oracle says: Ruben Brown has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Ruben Brown was in Nobody Rides Forever (1996) with Jon K. Farless
Jon K. Farless was in Replacements, The (2000) with Paul Majors
Paul Majors was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon
Iain – exactly. It’s hysterical – I can see how people become obsessed with finding something that is over 3 degrees of separation – every name I put in – Fredric March, Teresa Wright – even Lillian Gish – was 2 degrees. Valentino was 3 so I felt pretty proud of that one – but still!!
Ruben – hahahaha You’re in there! I love it!!!
I wasn’t trying to say something like ‘so-called entertainment’. More that it’s a very broad category. And that some of what is called entertainment is really celebrity.
And when I went back to that site I noticed that you can link anyone to anyone. Which shows your Degrees of Kevin Bacon is 3. :)
I’m in there??? WTF??
Oh I just checked. I don’t remember appearing in Love Laughs at Andy Hardy in 1946.
The Woodsman, despite its young age, seems to play a large part in the Baconverse…check this out:
The Oracle says: mae west has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Mae West was in Sextette (1978) with Dom DeLuise
Dom DeLuise was in Loose Cannons (1990) with David Alan Grier
David Alan Grier was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon
Fantastic. THIS is what the Internet was built for! How the F*** am I going to get anything done today?
Actually I just checked against your cousin Mike and added 1.
More The Woodsman goodness:
The Oracle says: Charles Chaplin has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Charles Chaplin was in Limelight (1952) with Norman Lloyd
Norman Lloyd was in Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, The (2000) with David Alan Grier
David Alan Grier was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon
David – hahahahah The O’Malley connection – good thinking!
If anyone comes up with a degree of separation higher than 3 – let me know. So far, I haven’t gone over 3. And I am going WAY obscure here.
Okay. I just linked Zasu Pitts with Kevn Bacon.
I couldn’t be happier than I am right now.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
No. I won’t do it. I will never click on that link again for fear of wasting hours and hours of my life. You are EVIL for posting it.
Blame John!! It’s all his fault!
Dude, Thelma Todd is a 3 — and she DIED 70 years ago!
Norbert Decker has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity. I’d say that’s a lot more than three.
Actually, I just put my brother’s name in there – He’s got 3 degrees.
heh heh
Glenn Danzig returned an infinity. But it should have been a 3 as he was in The Prophecy II with Christopher Walken who was in Kangaroo Jack with Michael Shannon who was in The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon.
Weird.
I haven’t tried the website yet but I do know that *I* am only 3 degrees from Kevin Bacon!
Craziness!
Because of Cullen’s comment, I am now listening to “Mother”…
The Oracle says: enrico caruso has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Enrico Caruso was in Splendid Romance, The (1919) with Crauford Kent
Crauford Kent was in Dispatch from Reuters, A (1940) with Eddie Albert
Eddie Albert was in Big Picture, The (1989) with Kevin Bacon
Amazing.
Funny you bring that up Alex, I am working on the final installment right now.
I’m thinking there should be a six-degrees of David Alan Grier. He seems to come up the most as a link between Kevin Bacon and the rest of the acting universe. Didn’t realize he was so busy.
Mike Nelson of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” fame has a seperation of 4.
Michael J. Nelson was in Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (1996) with Trace Beaulieu
Trace Beaulieu was in With or Without You (1998) with Rachel True
Rachel True was in Half Baked (1998) with Paul Brogren
Paul Brogren was in Cavedweller (2004) with Kevin Bacon
esperanza – hahahaha I agree! David Alan Grier’s name KEEPS coming up for me too!
Giamatti …
The Oracle says: David Alan Grier has a Paul Giamatti number of 2.
David Alan Grier was in 15 Minutes (2001) with Edward Burns (I)
Edward Burns (I) was in Confidence (2003) with Paul Giamatti
ok, so i’m an idiot. i just put in my friend jeffrey donovan only to find out he was IN a movie w/kevin bacon.
hahahahahaha
Okay, Sheila — here’s a weird thing. A while back I was checking out Christopher Lee on imdb.com and here is what it said:
“Is listed as the Center of the Hollywood Universe by the Oracle of Kevin Bacon web site at the University of Virginia, because he can be linked to any one in Hollywood on average in 2.59 steps. That is less than either Charlton Heston or Kevin Bacon himself.”
Okay. So if that’s true, why the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”? Wouldn’t “2.59 Degrees of Christopher Lee” be even MORE impressive?
I’m just sayin’ is all. ;-)
I love that that is in his bio, tracey. That is so hysterical!!
You’re in their a few times:
The Oracle says: Sheila O’Malley (I) has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Sheila O’Malley (I) was in My Old Dutch (1926) with Kathleen O’Malley (I)
Kathleen O’Malley (I) was in Lineup, The (1958) with Eli Wallach
Eli Wallach was in Mystic River (2003) with Kevin Bacon
I look pretty good for my age, huh, Bingley?
You certainly do!
Ooh! I found a ‘5’:
The Oracle says: Thomas A. Edison has a Kevin Bacon number of 5.
Thomas A. Edison was in Edison Drawn by ‘World’ Artist (1896) with J. Stuart Blackton
J. Stuart Blackton was in Vitagraph Romance, A (1912) with Florence Turner
Florence Turner was in Thousands Cheer (1943) with Mickey Rooney (I)
Mickey Rooney (I) was in Care Bears Movie, The (1985) with Jackie Burroughs
Jackie Burroughs was in Cavedweller (2004) with Kevin Bacon
And it has “the care bears movie”!!
YES!!!!
Holy crap.
The Oracle says: Ralph Bakshi has a Kevin Bacon number of 2.
Ralph Bakshi was in Heavy Traffic (1973) with Walt Gorney
Walt Gorney was in Friday the 13th (1980) with Kevin Bacon
However, it appears I may have found a legitimate infinity:
The Oracle says: Akira Kurosawa has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.
Akira Kurosawa cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.
About 12% of all actors cannot be linked to the rest of the movie universe, either because they have appeared only in TV features or straight-to-video releases that the Oracle doesn’t count, or because they have not appeared in any features with actors from the Hollywood mainstream.
Dammit, no. Kurosawa would have a KB number of 4 because:
The Oracle says: Tatsuya Mihashi has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
Tatsuya Mihashi was in Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) with Richard Anderson (I)
Richard Anderson (I) was in Player, The (1992) with David Alan Grier
David Alan Grier was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon
Kurosawa was a second director on Tora! for a time so that would put him at a fourth step, I guess.
“Kurosawa was a second director on Tora! for a time so that would put him at a fourth step, I guess.”
For his next trick, Cullen will recite—from memory—the names of the PAs, Catering Service, and Script Supervisor from Tora!Tora!Tora!
I thought I knew a lot of info that was only good for using in, well, places like Sheila O’Malley threads, but Cullen just demonstrated that my knowledge base is but a small puddle compared to the vast ocean of trivia that surely resides in his brain.
I feel so inadequate now.
-sniff-
The Oracle says: fred ott has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.
fred ott cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.
Alex, I just happened to be doing some research on Tora! Tora! Tora! recently and that bit of trivia stuck with me.
Though I did get a copy of Scene It for Christmas and have been demolishing all competition.
It is safe to say that if I am ever in the same room as Cullen, I will decline any and all invitations to play Scene It, unless we are on the same team, of course.
I will, however, play anyone in a game of Trivial Pursuit, Star Wars Edition.
For money. :)
I got a copy of that when it first came out. I thought I knew a thing or two about Star Wars. On the way to the premiere of Ep. 1, I took some of the cards with me. I was traveling with one of my soldiers and his friend. My troop schooled me. He knew things I couldn’t even begin to know.
I got a copy of Trivial Pursuit the ’90s and have not yet had the chance to play it, but I look foward to it.
BTW, on topic, this shocked the heck out of me:
The Oracle says: James Raspberry has a Kevin Bacon number of 3.
James Raspberry was in I Was a Zombie for the F.B.I. (1982) with Chris Schadrack
Chris Schadrack was in People vs. Larry Flynt, The (1996) with Courtney Love
Courtney Love was in Trapped (2002) with Kevin Bacon
I really would have thougt it would have been a couple higher than this. Who here besides me has even seen I Was a Zombie for the FBI?
I just thought all you O’Malley’s out there (including Michael) should know that Mike O’Malley has only two degrees on separation between Kevin Bacon. Rock on cousin Mike!
The Oracle says: Pancho Villa (I) has a Kevin Bacon number of 4.
Pancho Villa (I) was in Life of General Villa, The (1914) with Walter Long
Walter Long was in City of Missing Girls (1941) with Herb Vigran
Herb Vigran was in Amazon Women on the Moon (1987) with David Alan Grier
David Alan Grier was in Woodsman, The (2004) with Kevin Bacon
