I just found this site via the Slugger trackback. So far, I’m really impressed. Consider yourself bookmarked, and linked (though only when I’m bothered to fiddle with my blog again!).
have you read his translation of Beowulf? it’s incredible.
Yes!! I also have it on tape – and it’s him reading it. Soooooooooo good!! I play it while I’m cleaning. hahahahaha
i’ve never heard it on tape; now i’ll have to investigate.
did you get my email about Atonement? they’re making a film…
Yeah, I got it, Amelie! I am tentatively excited about it. Not wacky about the cast already, but oh well. I’m not in charge.
Dearest: I’m eagerly awaiting Heaney’s latest [District and Circle] from Amazon. But, New Yorker published 3 or 4 new poems a couple of weeks ago and they were crap. I wonder if some editor there selected them or heaney dumped some rejects on them. love, dad
They’ve just finished broadcasting the interview, Sheila.. and when they get around to archiving it I’ll add a link over at Slugger. It’s a really interesting interview.. on the evolution of the poet as well as the evolution of Death of a Naturalist – “a threshold.. a trusty doorstep”
Quotes from Hughes and Wordsworth.. on meeting Larkin [briefly].. and on being accepted by the “mythical legendary Fabers.”
Lots of fascinating details. He also talks about his apprentice poems in Death of.. and the right voice, wrong vocabulary he now sees in Digging.
On District and Circle.. there are two of the poems included in the collection linked over at Slugger – Out of Shot and Höfn
Höfn I liked in particular.. but neither are typical of the collection as a whole.
we can always hope for scheduling conflicts, and new players we like better… ; )
