lets see…Angel at My Table–about a New Zealand poet laureate..amazing film.
Men Dont Leave-great acting
High Tide-one of my faves!!! Judy Davis as a back-up singer in a bad Elvis tribute band discovering the daughter she gave up..brilliant.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai-ridiculous and hilarious
Little Man Tate-small, delightful and moving.
A Child is Waiting-an “attempt” by Cassavettes to make a mainstream film..hardly..it stars a brilliant Judy Garland(not a musical), Burt Lancaster and a very young Gena Rowlands..its wonderful
Another Woman-another obscure Woody Allen with Gena Rowlands and a “two-minute” Oscar performance from Betty Buckley…arty, serious and great.
Up the Sandbox-Barbra Streisand tried to have a career away from musicals and slapstick and schmaltz with this film written by Paul Zindel…the American public said “no”..and the critics loved it…wacky, seventies-ish, beautifully acted..a lost gem.
Another Woman – one of my favorite movies of all time. You’re the one who made me see it.
What about Sandy Dennis in her bizarre cameo – and that great scene between Rowlands, Dennis and Dennis’ husband – played by … who???
Gene Hackman was sooo sexy in that movie, too. A real grown-up man.
wasn’t it Ian Holm???? Bilbo Baggins??
no it wasnt..he plays Gena’s husband..hmmm.cant recall..Sheil..have u seen An Angel at My Table????
Sandy Dennis was bizarro in everything!!!
Mitchell – yes, saw Angel at my Table – wonderful, and disturbing.
yeah, Ian Holm was great as Rowland’s husband – Okay, I’m looking up Sandy Dennis’ husband right now.
Mitchell – did you see my first 5 under-rated movies? Scroll down …
The whole Manhattan Murder Mystery conversation in the comments had me howling with laughter last night. Did you know Alex has never seen it???
“This is MY case, honey, MY case.”
