I guess I will be the first (and probably only!) to comment. So, thank you Sheila! It means a lot. And RIP Davy…

Such a great tribute. I was too young for the original mania – but I hopped on that wave watching Brady Bunch re-runs. I still love all of their songs. RIP!!!

    What a wonderful tribute!

I also joined into the mania, via reruns. My aunts, my mom, my cousins, and my sister and I were all obsessed. We started at different times — my aunts are 40 years older than I am, and my cousins are 20 years older than I am — but it was a great unifying theme. Whenever we get together and go for a walk, we still do the Monkees walk down the middle of the street, singing at the tops of our voices.

Thanks for writing it, Kim, and thanks for sharing it, Sheila!

  4. Yup. She nailed it. RIP, Davy Jones. 66 is way too young, and was–indeed–an incredible year in music.

One of the finest film writers ever, and always writing about much more than the film. She does not write essays. They are modern short stories and poems.

Whenever I hear a Monkees song I can’t help but think of Teri Garr in After Hours, in one of my all time favorite cameos. That’s a great tribute, and I told her so on her blog. Thanks for linking Sheila.
