A fascinating cover of Marilyn Manson’s raging The Beautiful People by the all-female Belgian chorus Scala & Kolocny Brothers. I am obsessed with their covers. They first came to my attention, as I imagine is the case for most Americans, with their haunting version of Radiohead’s Creep, which played over the first trailer for The Social Network. At that time, their stuff was very hard to find, and not on iTunes. You’d have to import CDs, etc. But clearly someone got smart (the millions of people Googling “Who does that awesome cover of Creep in the Social Network trailer” probably was a clue) and now their stuff is accessible.
Their cover of Creep is subtly terrifying, the sudden surges of volume, the sound of an entire chorus of women suddenly whisper, as one … it makes you feel like you are about to be murdered. By someone who says he loves you.
But my favorite is their cover of Marilyn Manson’s song. If you know the original, this interpretation will blow you away and is just a testament to what a good song it is. That it can take such an adjustment.
Both versions freak the s*%h of me. Though it is my favorite Manson song. I remember he was on the Grammys or somethimg like that and Chris Rock was the host and after Manson performed Chris Rock comes on and goes “Everybody get you ass to church now”. It was pretty funny.
RECENTLY HEARD SCALA DO A VERSION OF U2’S WITH OR WITHOUT YOU.TOTALLY GORGEOUS.
