LM Montgomery on Emerson

“To be interested in Emerson you must get right into the groove of his thought and keep steadily on it. Then you can enjoy him. There can be no skipping or culling, if you want to get at his meaning. I admire and appreciate Emerson, although I do not always understand him … His style is clean, precise, and cold, with all its beauty. I think his ideals are rather impracticable. He doesn’t seem to take ‘human nature’ sufficiently into account.”

Good God Girl, I’m out of breath just scrolling down the thing, let alone reading it. But I shall … eventually … when I get consumption … and have some time on my hands. For now … it’s Friday and the Racing Form awaits.
