The REAL question in my mind right now is: what is going to happen with Manny Ramirez?

I thought Francona’s press conference last night was a masterpiece of saying NOTHING. I think you want that in a manager. You protect your players. I loved Varitek, too, surrounded by reporters, saying in response to some question about Manny (but the reporter had only said “teammate”): “I’m not sure what teammate you’re referring to. David Wells, my teammate pitched a great game.”

But obviously SOMEthing’s going on. I could never be a sports reporter. I’m too in awe. If I asked Tek a question about Manny, and he responded like THAT, I would never come back with: “Yeah, but what about Manny ….” I would say: “Oh, yeah, man, Wells did great!!” That’s why they don’t pay me the big bucks.

Funny thing about youse guys out on the east coast (I’m here in Jersey, on business), and I say this with respect – outside of the Yanks/Sox, there seems to be little other interest in baseball as a whole. So much effing drama. Manny Schmanny. He’s an overpaid loafer with really bad hair whose only accomplishment may be to break the career record for grand slams, set by a true American hero (and Yank!) That makes me sad. You will never see Ramirez in the Hall.

Meanwhile over on the left coast, my Giants are plundering toward another forgettable season, 14 games below .500 and still in the hunt for a division title. That also makes me sad – the NL West sucks loudly this season. And before you say it, being a Giants fan, I am NOT a Bonds fan. The Giants died the day he signed. Now I live in Colorado and get to enjoy the AAA quality of the Rockies. Heck, maybe the Yanks/Sox ain’t so bad…

Todd – well, i’m a Sox fan so it makes sense that I am interested in the Yanks and the Sox.

Maybe the media only reports on the Yanks/Sox rivalry – But on the ground, it just is not true, my friend. I know Mets fans, Orioles fans, Twins fans … yadda yadda, as I am sure you do as well.

    I love Manny’s hair. I admit it!! :)

The Rockies aspire to reach the heights of “AAA quality”, an aspiration that is sadly unlikely to be attained before the team is sold. Can we please have the Bears, or even the Zephyrs, back?

As an aside, any claim that the team that set the Major League attendance record (and led the Major Leagues in total attendance year after year) can’t afford to keep players is risible. I can only hope that Charlie Monfort will soon go back to stinking up Greeley and stop stinking up Denver.
