The white-hot pansexual-yet-ALPHA-MALE sex appeal on that stage is almost too much for me to handle.

This is so great.
Have you read Billy Gibbons’ description of their 2 hour conversation about the guitar? Way cool.
Prince was way into this song. He was just grooving along with Lenny, then turned on the Full Prince when it was his time.
That dolphin stutter sound he makes with the guitar at about 2:15. Just completely WTF.
The song just JAMS. And Lenny is no slouch himself on the guitar/star power/sex appeal.
Now I need to watch it again!
I haven’t read the conversation of which you speak – link, please?

Thank you!
If the embedded Honky Tonk Woman in that wasn’t enough, here’s Prince doing Whole Lotta Love. I like how he walks away without doing a note-for-note of Jimmy’s ending solo.
Okay, I haven’t watched that one yet – I will – but I got sucked into another video on that playlist – Prince’s absolutely eerie cover of “Creep” – the quality of the image is not very good, but you can feel the power of that performance. Cliched – but I literally got goosebumps.
Then be sure you scroll down far enough to watch him with Sheryl Crow on a slowed down, funked up version of Every Day Is A Winding Road.
And then even further down for Starfish And Coffee with the Muppets.
This is a great playlist.
I remember the Muppets Starfish and Coffee from when it actually aired. I actually remember a lot of these things since he was just so omnipresent in my youth, on MTV, everywhere. He has spoken repeatedly of how much he loves Joni Mitchell and what an influence she had on him and Kim M. just posted a quote from Joni about Prince – I’ll track it down. It’s a beautiful glimpse of how artists are (more often than not) generous towards other artists – because it’s all one community. This is something really not understood by a civilian population for some reason (the interpretation of Tom Petty being “annoyed” during Prince’s guitar solo, for example: that is projecting your own mediocrity onto a situation where nobody is mediocre, therefore different rules apply.)
Let me grab the Joni quote – she has spoken of him often, and he has spoken of her often – but this one I hadn’t heard.
Joni Mitchell:
“Prince. Prince attended one of my concerts in Minnesota. I remember seeing him sitting in the front row when he was very young. He must have been about 15. He was in an aisle seat and he had unusually big eyes. He watched the whole show with his collar up, looking side to side. You couldn’t miss him—he was a little Prince-ling. [Laughs.] Prince used to write me fan mail with all of the U’s and hearts — that way that he writes.”
You’ve mentioned how generous he was to other artists. In this clip I love that even in his electric blue lame’ unitard and matching guitar he never steals the song away from Lenny. He enhances the shit out of the performance. ‘American Woman’ was one of my favorite songs introducing me to the Guess Who, but this is some Hot n Dirty.
It’s thrilling when these giant stars play “support staff” to someone else’s awesomeness.
(Like his note to Suzanne Vega, down the page.)
Generosity towards other artists was part of who he was – and of course Prince listened to every song that came out, probably.
I love the bit in the link below this one – about Tom Petty’s drummer talking to Prince and what happened next!
These two together is too much. Otherworldly sexy.
I can’t deal. I almost have to look away. Or sneak off for some “me time.” hahaha
It’s great!
Prince performing Bowie’s Heroes.

And Helen Mirren with a Prince Homage.
These are both amazing – thank you for sharing.
So much is emerging now – people uploading clips like crazy. It’s sad, but I am grateful for it.
