In all the “ink” spilled already about the series, there’s been nothing like this essay. I got legitimate goosebumps at the last line. (I have seen the movie in question, but did not know David Lynch’s connection to it.)

Not goosebumps but something in my gut dropped. As your friend Keith remarked in his recap, “But though those of us watching from a distance may not understand every in and out of the pair’s interaction (may not explicitly “get it”), we implicitly do”. I don’t “get it” exactly (yet), but somehow I know it. Or my body KNOWS. It reads like the series, seemingly random yet everything is connected and somehow feels like Lynch had all of this in his head always, with all the connections, decades earlier somehow. I don’t have the right words to describe this… like the Major knowing all of what happened and would happen 25 years earlier. Like some kind of weird fate with very real connections all over the map. Can’t articulate any of this. Thanks for the link; I’m going to be reading that essay many times over, my guts dropping into the abyss.
I so agree with your response. I had the same sensations. That I already KNEW this but I didn’t KNOW it. It’s THERE, but it’s not there in the language.
I’m going to be so sad when this all ends – but then I just get to look forward to re-watching. I’m kind of blown away that all of this is even happening, tbh.
